Description

A common question that we get asked is "how much shock oil do I need to buy?". This tool will help you determine how much oil to buy PER SHOCK. It only ESTIMATES the amount of oil you'll need to purchase, NOT how much oil you actually put into the shock. It does not compensate for the seal head, hose, shaft, bypass tubes or other parts in the shock that all take up volume. Distance above the IFP is the length before the piston bottoms out. Some shock builders completely bottom out their IFP and some builders set their IFP an inch or more before being bottomed out to have some oil in the reservoir chamber.

Input all your measurements in inches. Use decimals instead of factions. For example 3.5 not 3-1/2

King's Emulsion Shock Recommended Oil Volumes

Warning! These volume levels, provided by King Shocks, are for emulsion shocks, air shocks and bump stops. They do not include levels for remote reservoir, piggyback or bypass shocks. The diameter of a reservoir, length of a reservoir, depth of an IFP internal floating piston, and length of a hose all take up volume in the shock. Also remember that these levels are PER SHOCK. For example if you're rebuilding two 2"x14" emulsion shocks that use 450cc then you'd need 900cc to do both shocks.

  • 1 Quart = 946cc
  • 1 Gallon = 3785cc

King doesn't provide volume for 3" and greater shocks because the shock cylinders and hose lengths affect the volume. Also, when oiling a shock, a builder should never rely on a specific volume. If the oiling process is done correctly, it's all about topping the shock off correctly after bleeding the air out.
